In this painting, I imagined a lone man standing at the threshold between death and the afterlife, looking towards the light of the next. The setting sun symbolises the end of life’s journey, while the camel represents A‘amal اعمال, i.e. the deeds, the only thing that we truly carry with us beyond this world. Traditionally used to transport material possessions, here the camel carries nothing, further emphasising that no worldly belongings follow us after death.
This piece is a quiet reminder: life isn’t just about chasing material things. It’s about walking the path of God, doing good deeds, and preparing for the peace that awaits in the life to come.
